Making a good first impression
Your front door is more than a door. Its a portal to the place where you feel most relaxed. Your sanctuary from the world. Often neglected and relegated to the back of our mind – our front door should be something you plan along with the exterior of your house. Stylistically it should fit in with your house, but more importantly it should set the scene for what’s inside.
In 2024, you will see some new trends in front doors as well as the return of some old ones.
A red door
A new design trick popping up everywhere is the ‘Pop of Red.’ Designers agree that you can use a pop of red in any colour scheme or style and it will look good and bring personality to your home. Why not use that principal for your front door. Choose a bright, primary red on your door to shout to the neighbours that the residents inside are hip to the new trends and have personality to spare.

A raw door
Although doors need to be finished properly to prevent water damage and rotting, a new trend emerging is to finish your door so it still looks like raw timber. Doors can be finished in Cedar Oil to bring out the natural elements of the door while still making it waterproof and protecting it from damage. Combine a raw door with an oversized handle for a modern look.

A curved door
Curves are in baby! Giving the top of your front door a curve brings it bang up to date. Retro fitting a curved door can be tricky but not impossible. Have your builder extend the height of your doorway and fit a curved piece to match the curve of your new door. Ensure it’s finished to a high standard so you cannot tell where the cut was made. Doors Plus Wollongong can help you with information and tutorials on how to plan for and fit an arched door.

Double Doors
It doesn’t get any grander than this. Create a dramatic entrance by using double doors at your front door. Surround the doors with glass to create more of a scene. Setting the stage with a double door is made more effective if guests step into a large foyer. Carry the drama through with stylish tiles, wallpaper and a foyer filled with flowers. Not for the feint-hearted, this is a popular style of door for houses of those with theatrics in their heart!
